Gundarin Fm

Period:
Permian

Age Interval:
Lower Permian (P1 u+kb), D1

Province:
SW Tajik

Type Locality and Naming

It is distinguished by Gundarinskaya by G. A. Dutkevich and M. A. Kalmykova (1937)

Synonym: Gundarin suite, rундаринская свиты, Uluk and Kuberghandinsky horizons

Reference section:

Lithology and Thickness

It belongs to Ulyk and Kubergetin horizons. It is represented by dark gray sandstones and siltstones, interbedded and containing interlayers of organogenic dark gray limestones. The thickness of the suite is 300-750 m, and in the valleys of the Gundara and Charumdara rivers - 1500 m (?).

The thickness of the considered deposits of the Ulyk and Kubergetin horizons is 600-3000 m.

Lithology Pattern:
Sandy limestone

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The Gundarin Fm lies conformably on the upper sub-suite of the Afetdaron Fm (in places on the Chelamchin Fm)

Upper contact

It is overlain by the Iolykhar Fm, which is conditionally assigned to the Murgab horizon of the Upper Permian, with visible conformity or angular unconformity.

Regional extent

It is widespread in the Darvaz district.

Fossils

In it, foraminifera of the Darvasian stage, according to determinations by A.D. Miklukho-Maklai, have been found: Nodosaria cf. longissima Sul., Pachypholoia cf. robusta M.-Maclay, Geinitzina tscherdyncevi M.-Maclay, Neofusulinella giraudi Depr., Darvasites contractus Schellw. et Dyhr., Pseudofusulina vulgaris Schellw. et Dyhr., Ps. exilis Schwag., Brevaxina (?) sp. In addition, M.A. Kalmikova (1967) cites from this suite Misellina dyhrenfurthi (Dutk.), M. claudiae (Depr.), M. termieri (Depr.), M. parvicostata (Depr.), M. vosginensis Kalm., etc., characteristic of the Kubergetin horizon. In it, there are remains of Permian brachiopods and pelecypods, as well as corals typical for the Artinskian stage of the Urals and the Schwagerin horizon of the Carnian Alps: Amplexocarinia muralis Sosch., Carinthiaphyllum carnicum Her. (Pyzhiyanov and Vlasov, 1970).
